Our approach

The Comtec way

We have a saying: preparation and process make perfect. With the best processes, tech and partner in place, you’ll be on the path to success. We won’t go into the nitty gritty but here’s an overview of how we work.

Phase 1

Immersion and setting up for success

We use this time to get to know each other and the brief. Our team wants to know what makes you tick and how translations can help meet your goals. We’ll agree on the best processes for project management and reviews, get you up to speed on our tech and ensure we have the right reference material, including style guides, past translations and glossaries to hit the ground running.

Phase 2

Translation, localisation and more

This step might vary between projects. One thing is certain, we’ll collaborate with the best linguists, who are native speakers and experts in your topic, to deliver the translations you need. We can also develop subtitles or work with voiceover artists, we can take care of artworking for marketing and implementation for elearning modules. Our translations span far more than words to deliver what you need.

Phase 3

Quality checks and reviews

Quality to us goes far beyond the words on the page (or video). We consider syntax, flow and tone of voice, read more about our quality standards here. We’ll also work closely to support in-market review teams and streamline feedback and reviews. Our bespoke technology makes providing and tracking changes as easy as uno, dos, tres.

Phase 4

Ongoing support

Many of our translation partnerships last several years (in some cases decades). We support your localisation needs long term, as well as maintaining glossaries, reference texts and improving our services with feedback and reviews. Quality to us is more than the work we deliver; it’s about the service we provide and the partnerships we build. Our team is an extension of yours and is never more than a phone call away.

Award-winning project management

When you’re used to running projects with hundreds of different linguists all around the world, you get pretty good at project management. But pretty good isn’t good enough. That’s why we go above and beyond what’s expected to deliver PM excellence.

We work with our clients to find the right processes for them. Sometimes this means adapting to their internal company workflows, for others we’ll create hybrid or bespoke systems to make sure everyone is clear and on the same page.

This allows us to work to tight deadlines across dozens of languages and keep a firm grip on every step of the project. Our clients have peace of mind knowing that we’ve got everything covered.

Our team undergoes regular project management training and we are always reviewing our practices to improve and grow.

Our Linguists

Whether they’re based in sunny Spain or tropical Thailand, our linguists are part of the Comtec team. With over 200 languages spoken between them, they’re all native speakers based in-country. This means they have the cultural awareness and local knowledge needed to engage your global audience.

We hand-pick qualified translators with specialist industry knowledge for each project and continually assess their work.

We have experts across fields from marketing to medicine, meaning not only are they fluent in your desired language, but also in your subject matter. This allows us to create your translation A-team with the right expertise in the language, culture and sector.

Managing the in-country review process

In-country reviews can be a huge asset to translation and localisation projects. If you, or your client, have colleagues working in the region you’re translating for, they can provide valuable on the ground insight and feedback. It’s also a great way to build a sense of ownership and unison between different markets for translations.

Yet managing this process can feel a little like spinning plates. To make the most of it, you need a robust process for managing feedback, agreeing on glossaries, establishing review frameworks and keeping everyone in the loop.

This can be time-consuming and made even harder when not everyone speaks the same language. That’s why we can work either directly with the in-country team or behind the scenes to streamline the entire process. Our online client portal makes reviewing translations secure and straightforward at just the click of a button. Find out how we review that feedback in this short video.
