Every day this week, we have looked at the yuletide traditions of a variety of countries. Today, we round off our tour with the UK. We hope you’ve enjoyed our snapshot of festive customs from around the world. Merry Christmas to everyone from the Comtec team!
British Christmases are filled with decorated houses, homes and trees, mistletoe and holly, Christmas carols and classics, mince pies and puddings, turkey and stuffing. We hang our stockings on Christmas Eve either at the foot of our bed or at the chimney and get up early the following day to see what presents Father Christmas has brought us. A large Christmas dinner is then served with crackers containing party hats and bad jokes, stuffed turkey, Brussels sprouts and carrots laden with gravy followed by Christmas pudding with coins hidden inside which bring whoever finds them wealth for the coming year. Not forgetting the Queen’s speech at 3pm. The afternoon and Boxing Day are then spent visiting relatives.
So this Christmas Eve, when you are sat in front of the usual re-runs of Christmas shows, munching on warm mince pies in the dim glow of the Christmas tree lights, think of others around the world and how differently they will be celebrating this year.
Merry Christmas one and all!!
