Inspiring the West Midlands at the Region's IoD Annual Dinner

Any attendees at the annual dinner of the Institute of Directors West Midlands (IoD West Midlands) could only have left the event feeling inspired.

In one of Warwick Castle’s historic rooms last Thursday, directors and entrepreneurs from some of the region’s most innovative and ambitious companies listened to impassioned speeches from Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport, and Sir John Peace, Chair of the Midlands Engine. One of the main messages was that the Midlands is the place to be in this era of Brexit.

The Midlands Engine aims to drive up productivity and growth across the whole of the Midlands region. Since 2015, the partnership has been working with businesses, universities, colleges and the public sector to deliver its ambition to create 300,000 new jobs and generate an additional £34 billion by 2030.

We were told not to be fearful of Brexit but to embrace the challenges that lie ahead.

The Midlands has always been at the heart of industry in the UK – since the industrial revolution up to the present day with the region’s car manufacturing industry still being one of the area’s biggest employers.

The Midlands has always adapted to change. And we have great people here. Sir John Peace said that with the right people and the right vision, all businesses that reside here in the Midlands can be a success.

I couldn’t agree more.
