2017’s RACE TECH World Motorsport Symposium, held on 30th November and 1st December, brought together influencers and industry leaders from the automotive and motorsports industry.
And us! For the first time Comtec was an official sponsor of this event, and I had two very interesting days attending talks and speaking to delegates.
There were three key takeaways from my conversations at the Symposium:
- The truly global reach of the UK’s motorsport industry – 87% of companies export overseas
- The high demand for translation services, particularly for technical automotive translations and interpreting services
- The shared values that both Comtec and many companies in motorsport embrace
Why are automotive translations needed?
Automotive translation services really do cover a diverse range of content. For example, there are the technical translations needed by motorsport engineering suppliers who are selling their innovative solutions to international teams. Successful partnerships between suppliers and motorsport teams require excellent communications and to achieve this interpreting services, as well as content translations, are needed.
Then there’s the content that is used to promote events and engage fans, building brands and revenue opportunities. This falls under the service of ‘marketing translations’, which need to be highly targeted for each country or market to be successful. By extension this also includes PR and translations services to support these opportunities, whether that’s translating a press release or providing interpreters for PR engagements.
Finely, translation and interpreting services may also be needed to communicate with sponsors and key stakeholders. Many motorsport teams will have a range of different nationalities amongst their investors; communicating with them in their native language is an important part of building strong relationships that are essential for the success of the team.
From my conversations with industry professionals at the World Motorsport Symposium, it was clear that languages can be a challenge. Many delegates reported finding it difficult to get high quality technical translations, with sourcing a translation team with the right experience a significant problem. I was delighted to be able to share our expertise and how we work with specialist translators and interpreters who have industry-specific experience. You can find out more about how we hand pick our automotive translation team for each project here.
Throughout the Symposium I was also struck by the parallels between our company values and those expressed by companies in the motorsport industry. Values such as ‘dedication to excellence’ and the passion for performance, quality and service, are all things we’re committed to at Comtec. To this end we’re continually measuring and evaluating our performance, exploring innovative solutions that help us deliver a better service, and constantly refining what we do to align our services with our customers’ needs.
The motorsport industry does all of this on a very public stage. Every series we can see how those values translate into results for the teams and how they inspire fans and investors. We’re very proud to be able to support this by providing expert automotive translation services and playing a small role in such a dynamic and exciting industry.
