Quality standards you can trust
We understand that translation can be quite a daunting thing – how will you know if the translation is any good, let alone accurate?! So to ensure that you feel 100% confident in our service, we put quality at the heart of everything we do.
In October 2016, we were awarded ISO 9001:2015 quality certification, making us one of the first translation agencies to achieve this brand-new certification. This substantially revised quality management systems standard has a new focus on performance and managing expectations for all interested parties; customers, regulators, and end users.
Comtec also adheres to the ISO 17100:2015 quality standard. The certification is awarded by the European Committee for Standardisation and ensures that translation excellence is maintained in all key processes and procedures.
So, what does this mean for our clients?
Having received both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17100:2015 certification confirms that Comtec remains an industry leader in quality assurance and highlights our unwavering success at delivering the very best translations possible. For our clients, our commitment to quality means technical terminology is accurately translated, marketing copy is localised in a fluent, engaging and culturally appropriate manner, artworked documents retain the look and feel of the originals and local market terminology and expertise is always captured.
Quality assurance during the translation process
Throughout the translation process, the quality of output is monitored at key stages, through proofreading, moderation and in-house quality checks.
Proofreading allows for a second experienced native-speaking translator to review and refine the translation, in particular in terms of the style, tone and terminology used.
Depending on the size and scope of the project, a third experienced native-speaking translator is assigned to complete periodic reviews of the translation in terms of the overall quality.
As part of the final stage in the translation process, a full in-house check is completed on all content for completeness and formatting.
All feedback received on translation quality from the above mentioned proofreading and moderation stages is included within our translation management system Dovetail. All feedback is monitored on a continuous basis by our Head of Operations, Helen Deeley.
Translator Assessment and Selection
To ensure we provide accurate, fluent, well written and effective translations of the highest quality to our clients, we hand-pick expert and professional translators with specialist industry knowledge for each project. All our skilled translators undergo a rigorous assessment process in order to join our global network.
They are initially selected for assessment based on key criteria (Qualifications, Minimum 5 years’ experience, Specialist subjects, References) and must complete a sample translation to a high standard. Should they be accepted, they are then incorporated into Comtec’s on-going assessment system under which his/her work undergoes continual quality reviews.
All our professional translators work only into their native language and must have a specialist understanding of particular industry sectors and the associated terminology, as well as in-depth cultural knowledge of the target countries.
Interpreter Assessment and Selection
Our interpreters adhere to a stringent Code of Conduct that guarantees the highest standards of accuracy, impartiality, confidentiality and cultural sensitivity. All our interpreters are affiliated to professional bodies including the AIIC, National Register of Public Service Interpreters, Institute of Translation and Interpreting and Institute of Linguists.
Interpreters are selected based on their knowledge and expertise in the subject area required and their experience of interpreting in similar situations. Our database of interpreters covers a wide range of skills, from community interpreting, to facilitating conversation in business meetings, to simultaneous interpreting for large conferences. All approved interpreters are required to hold an appropriate qualification in interpreting and provide a minimum of two good references. Feedback is also collected after each assignment, to ensure that they fully meet the needs of our customers at all times. Where a customer may require interpreting over several days, we always endeavour to provide the same interpreter for all dates to maintain consistency.
